LIBRARY INFORMATION AND LIBRARY PROGRAM
LIBRARY HOURS
Our Library is open during all school days for class visits. In addition, the library is open each morning before school for students to return books they have completed and to select new books for class projects or for pleasure reading.
LIBRARY RULES
- Listen
- Follow directions
- Do your best
- Be a friend
- Take care of the books
- Follow all school rules
- Have fun!
LIBRARY PROCEDURES
Students returning library books must first bring them to the circulation counter for processing, then place them on the proper shelf on the return cart before sitting in their assigned seats in the "tighten up" position. After class instruction is complete, students with shelf markers are allowed to select their book(s) for the week. Only students with shelf markers are allowed to be out of their seats. Students are called to line up for dismissal according to their tables.
TUTORING
The librarian's schedule also includes blocks of tutoring time in grade-level classrooms. No students are allowed in the Library if an adult is not available. Outside tutors (adopters, etc.) or other groups may use the library only with the supervision of an authorized adult.
LIBRARY PROGRAM
The Library Program at Jackson Elementary School follows the guidelines of the Shelby County School System. We also offer many enrichment opportunities for our students to expand their knowledge and to explore different areas. We work closely with the Memphis Pink Palace Museum to provide multiple opportunities throughout the year for students to view and examine the "Museum Without Walls" suitcase exhibits as well as "Passport" activities.
Our school librarian is responsible for coordinating our annual Scholastic Book Fair, Read for the Record, school Spelling Bee, Read Across America Celebration/Time to Read Day. She also collaborates with other support staff to sponsor many other school-wide events and activities.
